Want to go the next level in insanity? Think that using that normal powder snow isnt enough? Well heres your chance, Secret Weapon has made the next level of insanity, crushed glass. This stuff retails for about 8 bucks and its awesome for snowing your troops. But I dont think that this stuff would be good for large scale flocking. The reason for that is that this stuff is dangerous, Im mean its glass, very find glass, and when moved around in large it kicked up a lot of glass dust.

That being said if you use this stuff FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WEAR A FACE MASK, GLOVES AND EYE PROTECTION!!!!! Other then that its amazing stuff, I’ve been using it on my skaven after sealing the model I put some on the base and on their shoulders and it makes for that wet snow look. On larger scale models I could see mixing this with the train flock snow to get that freshly fallen snow and old frozen snow look. All in all I think that this stuff is worth it if your a serious modeler.

Where I was running a plague priest and two warp lightning cannons I’ve changed it around here the new list.

Grey Seer
60x Clanrats with spears and shileds
28 Plague monks with the plague banner.

Thats all 1000 pts. After a few play tests this list rocks provided I can get a good magic phase. The only downside I can find is character sniping. I fought an army that used the death lore for its magic and in the first round they had killed my Grey Seer and I have to say that there isnt anything rats can do against a block of Chaos Knights.

Things are going well for Clan Frostbight . The past weekend I got all of the models put together include two Warp Lightning Cannons I had a hard time getting. Thanks to some help from my friends all 89 models are together, on bases and flocked.

all 1000pts

Other then getting the models together I’ve had a busy week trying to get some progress made on the army. Aside from almost getting the back 15 of the plague monks done I successfully got all three units on magnetized movement trays.

The process was simple but took abit of work to do with so many models. For the banner and the rat ogres I used large rare earth magnets but the rest of the army is plastic so I went out to the craft store and bought a pack of business card magnets.

So after checking out the large selection of magnets I went with these for two reasons. 1. They are cheap, 2. they are flat out of the package, most magnets I found were rolled up and that just causes problems in the end. I bought three of these but I only needed one sheet for the rest of the army. I cut the sheets into small parts to fit the sectioned bases of the troops and glued them on top of two slices of plasticard.

Most people dont bother magnetizing their entire army but after just a few games I can see the advantage of it. Load a 30 man tray with spears and a full command then try and put it up on a hill with out them all tumbling down. The cost of the modification is under 15 dollars and I have tons of material left (including the sheet metal) so I should be able to make the larger 70 man trays as well as expanding the army. Oh and the magnets are strong for their small size.

So when I work on my flames of war army I don’t put my troopers on their bases then paint I normally glue them to tongue depressors in groups of 5 then paint on them. This normally works fine but it makes getting a few spots painted a little hard.
So the other day I was sitting at a Phoenix games and a friend of mine comes by to work on a fow army and he had his troops glued onto golf tees then stabbed into floral foam.

Its a neat idea and one I intend to use.

Once again I’m rebooting this blog in an attempt to help me work more on my miniatures. This time we’re talking Warhammer. I know some of you out there have a hate boner for the game but I don’t. Sure gw is a pain in the ass at times but I like rank and file combat on the table top.
So with that I’m going skaven, (and let’s face it I’m a furry so it was bound to happen). I’ve got 1000 pts to paint, that a lot of rats to work on and like the sons of St. N’bel I’m trying to get a move on them.
The overall theme of the force is snow so this army shall be known as Clan Frostbite. Seeing how my list is headed up by a 2nd level plague priest and a 20 man block of nasty plague monks I figured that would be a great place to start. Trying to keep the theme quick and simple I’m going for some quick and dirty painting rules.

1. Use of black, plague monk robes and armor are all black with gray trim.
2. No blending on the core. I will use blending on war machines, beasts and the command lines. ( let’s face it 5 of 60 isn’t a lot of blending in the end.
3. Set color pallet across the army. This means choosing one set of paints and making every unit some variation of those colors.
4. Inks are my best friend. I love the gw inks/washes and I plan on abusing them but at the same time there will be no ‘dipping’.

Once again this is going to be a challenge but at least this time I don’t have a set due date.

Why am I so happy about this? Well its simple, good bases will make or break an army. You can have the most well painted thing in the world but sitting on the normal black base or with just some sand and your fig will go from a 10 to a 5 in about 2 second. In my case Im using Darkage bases, these puppies are resin casted and come in your normal small medium and large sizes. You can find most of the Darkage line on one of my favorite sites Coolminiornot.com . Later on I’ll post a more in-depth article on bases so stay tuned, till then Im off to paint!
